Alaska caribou hunting success
stories abound when you fly
with Ram Aviation.

Your Alaska unguided caribou hunt begins when you touch down in Kotzebue after your flight from Anchorage. Before nightfall, you'll have your camp set up in one of the most remote areas of the world: the arctic tundra.

We begin our drop off caribou hunt season the end of August and run through the first part of October.  With these hunt dates the caribou have already begun (or finished) shedding their velvet, their antlers are hard and the migration is working its way through our utilized drop zones.  As a bonus, the bugs that Alaska is "known" for are all but non-existent since the season is cooler than the summer months - makes your unguided caribou or moose hunt that much better!

In the fall, the Western Arctic Caribou Herd will have split up into smaller herds moving to their wintering areas. Earlier in the spring the herd would have been as many as 400,000 strong, now they travel in groups that number in the hundreds. Our job, as your transporter, is to keep track of the herds and to put you in the best place to find them.

Some caribou facts for
Alaska caribou hunting.

The Caribou is type of large deer that roams the arctic regions of all the northern continents - we are hunting the Western Arctic Herd, which is Barren Ground Caribou.

People confuse these animals as their counterpart, the reindeer. Although in Alaska, that name "Reindeer" is used for a more domesticated variety that is often herded by native peoples OR more popularly known as "Rudolf, Dancer, Prancer & Vixon"!
